Counselling, Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) and EMDR
I trained as a mental health nurse working for many years in hospital and community settings, before training to be an Integrative Counsellor in 2002. I was accredited with British Association of Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP) for many years after this time, and then trained as a CBT therapist in 2010, later qualifying to practice Eye Movement Desensitisation Reprocessing (EMDR). I remain accredited with the British Association for Behavioural and Cognitive Psychotherapies (BABCP) where my name can be found on the register (BABCP number 100948) as a CBT therapist.
As a CBT therapist I am very experienced in working with problems with depression and the various anxiety disorders. As a counsellor I am experienced working with adult individuals who are experiencing a range of issues such as dealing with losses and relationship issues. I can offer EMDR or CBT for issues with trauma depending on the wishes of the client and depending on the discussion I would have with you to decide which approach might be the most comfortable or best one for you. When working with CBT I often find that a maximum of twelve sessions is a helpful number of sessions, as when you are engaging in CBT you are learning to be your own therapist. Often clients find it beneficial to do between-session work based on the content of the session.
I have engaged in a number of short courses as well as the substantial training courses listed above. Recent courses attended have included a workshop on dreams and an in-depth training in working with sleeping difficulties/problems with insomnia.
Please contact me or the clinic for details of my pricing. I look forward to working with you if you are interested in what I have to offer!
