Practice Description
The main approach I take in my counselling sessions is the Person Centred Approach (PCA), which places you, the client, at the heart of the process and as a counsellor I use methods and techniques from various approaches to work with you and help you manage your worries.
This means that you determine the content and direction of each session, while I actively listen and support you in finding your own solutions at your own pace.
I believe that people who have space to speak and explore their difficulties have a better chance of understanding and learning about who they are, which can help with the changes they may want to make.
Practice and research has shown that the client/therapist relationship is very important and impacts the therapy result. Having that in mind, I aim to bring honesty and truth in the therapeutic procedure and to work with you closely for the best possible result.
My role is to provide a non-judgemental space where you can explore your challenges and gain the confidence to make changes in your life. I believe this approach can be beneficial in helping you navigate life’s difficulties and achieve your personal goals.
I make sure you feel relaxed allowing you to explore what’s going on for you. I’m here to help you find your own way to solve anything that is worrying you or keeps you back from living a mentally healthy and fulfilled life. I’ve helped my clients break through the obstacles that seem to be holding them back in life and helped them manage the difficulties they are going through, being there to listen and support them at stressful times.
My personal touch lies in the belief that all people are unique in their own ways. Creating an unconditional space where you and all clients will feel safe, respected and fully accepted is essential for me. I can help you start to look at the difficulties that are filling your head and start to help you make more sense of them.
What is Person Centred Therapy?
Person Centred Therapy, also known as Client Centred Therapy or Rogerian Therapy, is a humanistic approach founded by Carl Rogers. It believes in people’s innate potential for growth and self-discovery. Key principles include unconditional positive regard, empathy and congruence. It avoids labels and dives into emotions and personal exploration in a non-directive way. This approach helps with various issues, fostering self-acceptance and self-esteem. It’s known for its safe and supportive environment for healing and personal growth.
About me and my therapy practice
Hi, I’m Lisa and I’m a qualified counsellor and a member of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP).
I understand that reaching out to a counsellor can be a significant step, and it’s natural to feel anxious or apprehensive. Please be assured that I will work collaboratively with you to build a strong therapeutic relationship where you feel as comfortable as possible.
Taking this first step can be the beginning of a journey towards a deeper understanding of yourself. Life can often leave us feeling unhappy, uncertain, or unfulfilled, and it’s easy to feel trapped in those emotions. By talking to someone who is fully present and dedicated to your well-being, you can learn and develop healthier coping mechanisms to address the issues that are holding you back and impacting your future.
My first experience as a counsellor was at a large Kent College where I trained on placement and once qualified as a counsellor, I went on to continue at the college volunteering for a further 2 years. I thoroughly enjoyed being part of this organisation and helping the students manage the things in their lives that were causing them upset and trouble.
I also work as a co-tutor for a counselling training organisation which helps me stay up to date with the latest theories and tools, ensuring my practice remains current, ethical and aligned with the high standards of professionalism expected of a counsellor.
I have experience working with adults of all ages, and my experience working in a college setting helped me realise that I have a strong ability to connect with adolescents. My approach centers on building a strong therapeutic relationship, which I believe is essential for understanding the challenges you’re facing and developing effective coping strategies.
My goal is to create a safe and comfortable space where you feel empowered to share your concerns openly. Together, we can explore these issues in a way that resonates with you and supports your personal growth.
Please feel free to reach out if you have any questions or would like to schedule a session.
